Cardiovascular disease is the world’s leading killer and requires a global collaborative effort to better understand its causes and complications.

The Heart Research Institute (HRI) was established in 1989 as a world-class research institute that performs groundbreaking cardiovascular research. We currently collaborate with over 60 teams across 25 countries.

The UK is playing a major role in the fight against cardiovascular disease.

Our global reach

The Heart Research Institute (UK) is a member of The Heart Research Institute group. The funds raised by HRI in the UK go directly to scientific research, helping find solutions to this global health challenge.

Simultaneously, HRI is fostering scientific excellence in the UK, and developing research collaborations and opportunities that support emerging talent from the UK.

We recruit the best scientists from around the world and collaborate with universities and research laboratories in more than 25 countries worldwide.

Our research takes us far and wide to present findings at international conferences and publish our work in leading international journals and magazines.

Supporting researchers from the UK

HRI UK Acceleration Grants are awarded to talented researchers to help fund their vital research and speed them towards important breakthroughs in their work that could save thousands of lives – in the UK and around the world.

Advancing the next generation of medical researchers

There are opportunities available for promising young students from the UK to work on a medical research project directly related to cardiovascular disease, expand on their skills and knowledge, and be mentored by world leaders in cardiovascular disease research.
