The primary objective of the National Foundation for Medical Research and Innovation (NFMRI) is to support innovative areas of biomedical research to help benefit humankind through the prevention or eradication of diseases, with a focus on advancing innovation.

NFMRI funding is targeted at advancing innovations to a point where they are competitive for the investment required to translate into products that can be taken up by healthcare systems, to save and improve lives.

We are delighted that the NFMRI is supporting our Applied Materials Group’s work to develop a durable treatment for peripheral artery disease (the reason people with diabetes often suffer limb loss). Currently, no lasting, effective treatment exists. Their funding is allowing us to perform a final stage of laboratory testing with collaborators to define the optimal dose of the treatment and demonstrate the extent of the improvement against the current best available treatment, drug-eluting balloons.
