Dr Lining Ju completed his PhD in biomechanics and biomedical engineering and received the SigmaXi best thesis award at the Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University, supervised by Regents’ Professor Cheng Zhu – a world leader in biomechanics and mechanobiology.

After moving to Australia, his research focus shifted to thrombotic disease. He has developed a state-of-the-art nanotool (Biomembrane force probe ‘BFP’) to examine single-molecule force sensing principles that are significantly implicated in thrombotic diseases and anti-platelet therapeutics. He is currently collaborating with Prof Dayong Jin at the University of Technology, Sydney to develop a new super-resolution imaging platform for visualising the nanoscale inner workings of human cardiovascular cell systems.

The ultimate goal of his research is to develop new ‘mechanomedicines’ with ultrasensitive biomechanical and imaging approaches to detect and target disease markers faster, cheaper and more effectively than current technology allows.
