Mathilde Soler

Masters in Biomedical Sciences
Visiting research intern

Biography

Mathilde Soler is a visiting Research Intern at the Cardiovascular Regeneration Group at the Heart Research Institute, under the supervision of Dr. Carmine Gentile. She is currently completing her Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences with a specialisation in Cardiology at the University of Mons, Belgium.

During her internship, Mathilde is involved in the generation and use of in vitro cardiac spheroids (“mini-hearts”) that mimic the in vivo microenvironment of human cardiac tissue. She is learning cell culture techniques to create 3D cardiac models and applying them to study cancer therapy-induced cardiotoxicity through exposure to cardiotoxic drugs.

Her work includes assessing changes in cell viability and function using specialised techniques such as microscopy, 3D rendering analysis and contractile activity measurements. She has a strong interest in cardiac tissue engineering, drug-induced cardiotoxicity and predictive in vitro models for cardiovascular research.
