HRI’s Dr Renuka Shanmugalingam recently received the SOMANZ Andrew Phippard Memorial Award for best scientific research oral presentation. Dr Shanmugalingam impressed the audience with her talk titled ‘Effect of aspirin on placental growth factor (PIGF) in pregnancy and the development of preeclampsia’.
The annual scientific Society of Obstetric Medicine of Australia and New Zealand (SOMANZ) meeting provided an excellent opportunity for clinicians, scientists and allied health staff to share and collaborate on research and clinical advances in improving obstetric care.
Whilst at the conference, Dr Shanmugalingam had the privilege of meeting and learning from some incredible local and international speakers. “The highlight of the conference, for me, was having had the honour of speaking to Prof Laura Magee, a world-leading preeclampsia researcher from the King’s College in London, on the details of our work on aspirin in the prevention of preeclampsia,” Dr Shanmugalingam says.
This is the second time Dr Shanmugalingam has won the award.
